Tai Chi Chuan (literal translation "Supreme Ultimate Fist") is an internal Chinese martial art practiced for centuries for both its defence training and its health benefits. Today, Tai Chi Chuan offers people of every age and condition a system of slow meditative physical exercise for relaxation, balance and health.
The Yang style, founded by Yang Luchan (1799-1872), is one of the most popular styles of Tai Chi Chuan around the world. Its standard form is characterised by the slow, gentle, open and circular movements one often sees practised in the parks in China and Hong Kong.
New students welcome! All are welcome. No previous experience or level of fitness is required.
Relaxed, loose clothing is ideal.
Three new 'Tai Chi' films were released in the UK in 2016:- "Tai Chi Zero" and "Tai Chi Hero", the first two parts of a trilogy about Yang Luchan and the founding of the Yang style (fun, but of questionable historical accuracy) - using the same naming convention, maybe the third will be "Tai Chi Nero" with Yang Luchan, as a Romanesque Emperor, 'playing the pipa' whilst Beijing burns? "Man of Tai Chi", with Keannu Reeves, set in modern times - a traditional battle of good and evil, with the Tai Chi adept, trying, as we all do, to resist the lure of the dark side!
